Bewick Bridge Primary School

Bewick Bridge Community Primary School is a nurturing and ambitious school in Cambridge. In 2021, the Senior Leadership Team began looking for a better way to track the progress of pupils with SEND. Their existing system wasn’t capturing the small but significant steps these pupils were making – progress that mattered deeply. They also wanted to involve Teaching Assistants more meaningfully, as they were often the ones witnessing these milestones each day.

After receiving a detailed demonstration from Education Consultant Alice, they recognised how iASEND could be beneficial. They were impressed by its ability to track personal and social development, filter by groups such as EAL and Pupil Premium, and most importantly, reflect the progress that truly matters. They were supported throughout the setup, and training was delivered to all class teachers and TAs.

Ofsted’s most recent inspection in December 2021 noted that “staff identify and help pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) quickly,” recognising the school’s proactive and inclusive approach to supporting individual needs.

By March 2022, iASEND was fully embedded in the school’s learning support plans.

“We were concerned as a school that we were unable to track the progress of children with SEND using the usual school assessments. We wanted a system that would help us identify next steps and create targets for SEND plans and most of all we wanted to see across the year that these children were making progress or even more concerning that their progress has stalled. Working below standards told us nothing but now we have iASEND we can clearly see where the barriers to learning lie and what we need to teach next in order to ensure that progress is maintained.”
